Integrity and Preservation
Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
The temptation to lie to promote our advantage is common to all of us. We may think that lying is common only to young children or to politicians. But as always, when the Scriptures warn against sin – any sin, it is because God knows that humans, at any age and in any station in life, are prone to sin – any sin. When the lie of Satan first found ground in which to germinate, the image of God in man, including truthfulness, almost fully disappeared in the vine of falsehood that chokes, poisons, and destroys. Satan is called the father of lies, and so he is.
Like the Psalmist, we need to pray that we would be people of integrity. And like the Psalmist, we need to encourage ourselves with the fact that we find preservation not in lies, but in truth-telling, leaving in the Lord’s Hands the outcome, for we wait on Him.
